The Metaconcert skill generally governs metaconcert work; a metaconcert check is required to join a metaconcert, against a DC based on how quick the action to be undertaken is, whether the concert is designed, and how many participants there are.
The metaconcert skill can be used untrained.
Participants that are latent may take 20 on their knowledge (metapsionics) check to use their power if the metaconcert is extended.
In a metaconcert, the maximum output of a metapsionic participant is equal to their % rating in the faculty they are using.
Direction
Metaconcerts can be directed or undirected. A director is required for any metaconcert containing more than 5 participants, but may be used for smaller concerts if desired.
For an undirected concert, each participant may contribute up to three quarters of their maximum output. A metaconcert skill check must be passed to join the concert. If there is sufficient time, the characters can take 20 on this.
If there is a director (who must have a minimum of ten ranks in the metaconcert skill), the metaconcert output is one half of the director's maximum output plus a percentage of the maximum output from the rest of the concert as follows:
Less than 100 participants: % equal to the metaconcert skill of the director
Between 100 and 1000 participants: % equal to half the metaconcert skill of the director
Between 1000 and 10000 participants: % equal to one quarter the metaconcert skill of the director
Design
A metaconcert can be designed or undesigned. The MetaConcertDesign? feat is required to design a metaconcert. A metaconcert must be designed if more than one metafaculty is to be used, unless each participant will be using only one faculty.
For an undirected metaconcert, using a design reduces the DC of the activity undertaken, and also removes the change of dysergistic failure (see below).
For a directed metaconcert, using a design means that the director can incorporate significantly more of the other participants' maximum output as follows:
Less than 100 participants: % equal to twice the metaconcert skill of the director
Between 100 and 1000 participants: % equal to the metaconcert skill of the director
Between 1000 and 10000 participants: % equal to one half the metaconcert skill of the director
Dysergism
When a metaconcert is underway, there is the chance of a dysergistic failure.
For a directed concert, if the director fails their metaconcert skill check, each participant must roll d20.
If no result exceeds ten, the metaconcert is not established sucessfully.
If the result exceeds 10 for any participant, the metaconcert is established, and there is a subsequent dysergistic failure, which causes the metaconcert to collapse, dealing 3d6 points of damage to each participant, and rendering the director, and any participant that rolled over 10, unable to use their metafaculties for d6 days.
If any participant rolls a 20, the failure is catastrophic, and may have devastating effects, which will vary depending on what the concert was attempting to do. These might include d4 permanent ability damage to all of the participants, or, if more than one participant rolls a 20, even death.
For an undirected concert with no MetaconcertDesign, the DM should roll 1d20 for each participant.
If none of the rolls are a 20, there is no dysergistic effect
If one or more of the rolls are 20's, there is a dysergistic failure, which causes the metaconcert to collapse, dealing 3d6 points of damage to each participant, and rendering all participants unable to use their metafaculties for d6 days.
IF all of the rolls are 20's, the failure is catastrophic, and may have devastating effects, which will vary depending on what the concert was attempting to do. These might include d4 permanent ability damage to all of the participants, or, if more than one participant rolls a 20, even death.
